The man, who was identified as Israel Navia, of legal age, domiciled in the General Savio neighborhood of Palpalá, suffered very serious injuries.

Among them TEC and skull fracture, and exposed fracture in one of his legs.

Until last night he was in serious condition.

One worker died and another was injured during an avalanche of earth that occurred during the construction of the Mompox sewer system.

Jorge Luis Herrera Marimón, 47, did not survive the avalanche of land that fell on him, while Alfonso Nassar, 24, was rescued alive and out of danger.

For both of them, today would be a common day that they would spend working on the construction of the sewage system of Mompox. The task for this Saturday was to do some excavations on the fourth street of the Juan José sector. During the morning everything went normal, the sun cleared early any attempt at rain so they trusted to finish the work quickly. But at noon the tranquility came to an end.

The mayor of Mompox, Nubia Quevedo, explained that apparently the drilling they were going to do was not so deep and they trusted each other. “They did not install the support that is the protection against the avalanches,” said the municipal president.

From one moment to another, a piece of land fell off and the avalanche buried the two workers. Before the emergency, the other workers reacted immediately and with the help of some machines they took out Herrera and Nassar; nevertheless the first one was already dead when he was rescued.

Four dead

In all, four thugs were killed. They are Gustavo dos Santos Maciel Mesquita, 22, Jefre Mariano Santana, 24, Victor Souza de Castro, 21, and an unidentified room. The fifth member of the gang that was arrested after surrendering is Valmir Lima de Pala, 28. They had a long criminal record.
