Dentist dies after falling in elevator pit in São José do Rio Preto

The case was registered in the Flagrante Central as manslaughter.

The dentist Ernesto Kunii, 67, died early Monday afternoon after falling accidentally with his motorcycle in the elevator pit of the Hopase building used as a paid parking lot, which is located on Rua Voluntários of São Paulo, in the Center of Rio Preto.

Ernesto arrived to be rescued by the Fire Department, placed in an ambulance of Samu, to be referred to the Emergency Unit (UPA) Tangará, but died due to the severity of the injuries.

According to fire department information, the dentist was riding the bike in the parking lot, but he would not have seen that the elevator was not on the ground floor and ended up falling into the pit.

The accident was witnessed by drivers who were also waiting to put the vehicles in the same elevator.

“When I saw him, he suddenly fell into the elevator pit and did not even have time to do anything, I already got my cell phone and called the fire department,” says one of the drivers.

Delegate Eder Galavotti, from Central de Flagrantes, recorded the case as a guilty homicide to be investigated. Criminal experts were at the crash site to gather information. The award will be completed in 30 days.

The building’s administrators have yet to comment on the case.
